What is web hosting?
Web hosting is where the files and actual content for your website live. It needs to live somewhere. Your website domain “points to” your web host, thus delivering your files and content. The website that everyone sees and loves <3. Good web hosting is the most important thing about your website aside from how it looks and your content. If your website is slow or is constantly crashing or getting hacked then no amount of good content or fancy design will help you.
Why your hosting vs. GoDaddy or BlueHost or HostGator or Siteground or WP Engine?
Web hosts are not created equal. These hosts utilize shared hosting environments where they pack upwards of 200 websites on a server. If one website on that server sees a spike in traffic or gets hacked, all the others are affected. We’ve seen it time and time again, it’s not pretty. With us, all sites are in a much more well equipped and flexible cloud environment, balancing resources to function optimally.
What happens if my website goes down?
Website downtime is very rare on our servers, but if it happens we will get a notification (and we can set you up to be notified too) and will get on it ASAP.
Where do I purchase a domain?
Hover.com offers free domain privacy and is a great option. You don’t have to wait for anything from us to purchase your domain and we recommend you secure you domain sooner than later 🙂
Why WordPress?
WordPress is an amazing platform to build a website on. It’s extremely powerful and customizable with tons of features out of the box and plenty of room to grow. There’s free plugins for almost anything, and a huge community of developers and people using WordPress. Did you know that WordPress powers over 30% of the top 10 million websites in the world!?!?
What about email?
Full email mailboxes with 25gb storage are available through us @ $3/email or you can BYOE w/Google or whatever else.
What about my existing hosting I'm paying for?
In many cases we’ll be able to get you a partial or full refund. Please let us know who your current host is and when you last paid your bill and we’ll let you know if you’re eligible or not.
Can I purchase hosting for my clients?
Of course! The price is the same for everyone, and you will be billed directly and can then bill your clients however you want.
Do you offer discounts? Yes, please see my addon website rates.
Can I test my website(s) before going live?
Yes of course! You can either use the temporary URL provided before we map your domain, or we can also setup a separate staging instance of your website where you can do anything you want and not affect the live site. You can even push/pull changes to and from the staging site but be sure you know what you’re doing with this feature and contact us if you have any questions 🙂
Do you offer WordPress maintenance?
We sure do! You can either save up to $10/mo. and opt for maintenance when you first sign up for hosting, otherwise it’s $30/$35/mo. per website. See our plans/pricing page for more info.
What server resources are provided with your hosting?
We provide unlimited storage, bandwidth and visitors per website within reason. We trust that you won’t be doing anything weird and anything you use your storage or bandwidth for is directly related to your website. If we notice that you’re abusing this policy we may contact you to figure out what’s going on. For example, my hosting space is not to be used as cloud storage for all your family photos or videos or your entire MP3 collection.
Is there a control panel?
By default we don’t provide access to the hosting control panel because this just confuses most people. If requested, you will be provided full access to the hosting dashboard area where you can manage everything related to hosting: FTP, database, backups, staging, etc.
Do you provide statistics for our website(s)?
You can view basic statistics and logs by gaining access to the hosting dashboard (just contact us), but we recommend and will setup for you for free Google Analytics which is free and chock full of statistical goodness! Once we setup your website we’ll make sure Google Analytics is setup and if not we’ll set it up and invite you 🙂
Do you offer refunds?
We provide pro-rated refunds for annual billing but not for monthly billing. If you wish to cancel, please contact us.
Free Migrations
Get off your slow hosting!
We’ll migrate your website often the same day, run all updates free of charge, and migrate your website to https if not already enabled. Again, all for free!
